November’s State Level Exercise Winlink

During November’s State Level Exercise Winlink was used extensively for
message handling. 172 individual incoming and outgoing messages were
handled at NC9IL, the State of Illinois RACES station. More details on
the exercise will be available from Brad W9FX.

To participate you may send a message as described below to N9PUZ@Winlink. org.

The message should be sent Saturday (local time) or before Sunday at 7:00pm local time.
A group reply to everyone “checking in” will be sent within a day or so after the ending exercise time.
Use one of the Winlink 2000 RF modes: packet, Pactor, WINMOR. Please do not use a Telnet connection. It does not exercise the components with which we are concerned. The purpose of the test exercise is to use your radio equipment to ensure that it is working properly.
Please send your name, call sign, and county in the message.
In addition to checking in, please let me know if there is a particular Winlink email address that you check regularly. I am interested in seeing if we could build a “mailing list” of sorts so that when en emergency occurs we have a idea how we might try to contact your county prior to hearing from you on an HF Phone net. More details on this later.

Field Day 2011

The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) division of the McHenry County Emergency Management Agency will be participating in Field Day on June 25th and 26th. The Field Day station will be located in the front of the McHenry County Government Center at 2200 N. Seminary Ave in Woodstock.
Objective of Field Day is to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions.
